Recall 17V8120006,758 vehicles

Problem: Ducati North America (Ducati) is recalling certain 2015-2018 1299 motorcycles (including STD, S, FE and SL models), Monster 1200 motorcycles (including S and R models), Multistrada motorcycles (including S and PP models), 2015-2017 Panigale R, 2016-2018 XDaviel S motorcycles and 2017-2018 Scrambler 800 CafÃ© Racer motorcycles. These motorcycles are equipped with Brembo front brake master cylinders that may fail.
Risk: If the front brake master cylinder fails, the loss of front braking ability can increase the risk of a crash.
Fix: Ducati will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake master cylinder piston, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 15, 2018. Owners may contact Ducati customer service at 1-800-231-6696.

I had this motorcycle serviced on March 18th, 2022 with 11,299 miles on the odometer. At that service in March of 2022, the technician indicated that the brakes were "1-Good" on a scale of 1-3, with 3 being "unroadworthy." Within those 4 months between the braking issue, there was no indication that the brakes needed attention. On July 23rd, 2022, with 11,950 miles on the bike, while leaving the parking lot of my apartment complex and entering the roadway there was zero braking power from the rear brakes. The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) based on twenty-two (22) Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs) for soft rear brakes caused by air seeping into the rear brake lines of model year (MY) 2012-2020 Ducati Monster, Multistrada, SuperSport, Panigale, Scrambler and Diavel motorcycles.The consumers were alleging that the rear brakes would not properly function unless the rear brake pedal was applied several times or that there was a total loss of rear braking during normal applications, increasing the risk of a crash. In a March 2020 meeting, Ducati indicated that they were aware of certain models in which air may enter the motorcycles' rear braking system through the brake lines, due to exposure to heat from the exhaust system.
