SWAY BAR LIGHT WAS FLASHING, BROUGHT TO DEALER NEEDED NEW ELECTRONIC SWAY BAR DUE TO CORROSION. THIS IS ENCLOSED AND SHOULD HAVE NO CORROSION I WAS CONCERNED THAT MY JEEP MAY GO INTO A DEATH WOBBLE IF I DROVE OVER 18 MILES PER HOUR. MY JEEP HAS ONLY 40,000 MILES.I BELIEVE THERE IS A DEFECT DUE TO COMPLAINTS I VIEWED ONLINE I NOT THE ONLY ONE SO ACTUATOR, STABILIZER BAR, WIRING CHASSIS, SCREW & RET PUSH CODE U1159 WAS SHOWING. POWER WIRE WAS CORRODED AND WEAK CLEANED & BENT PIN NEW WIRING HARNESS WAS NEEDED. AFTER 2260.00 I GOT MY JEEP BACK2
- Air bags
ON THE 2008 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) DASHBOARD, THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT FLASHES ON EVERY OTHER MINUTE WITH A CHIME, AN INDICATION THAT THERE IS SOMETHING MALFUNCTIONING OR INTERFERING WITH THE VEHICLE'S AIRBAGS.THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING ISSUE AND CONCERN FOR MANY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) OWNERS, INCLUDING MYSELF, AND HAS BEEN SHOWN TIME AND TIME AGAIN TO BE CAUSED BY A FAULTY CLOCKSPRING WITHIN THE VEHICLE'S STEERING WHEEL. THIS FAULTY CLOCKSPRING IS THE CULPRIT FOR POTENTIAL AIRBAG FAILURE IN THE 2008 JEEP WRANGLER (LHD) DURING AN ACCIDENT OR PREMATURE DEPLOYMENT WHEN SIMPLY DRIVING AROUND. DAIMLER CHRYSLER HAS REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE SAFETY CONCERN OF THEIR FAULTY CLOCKSPRING THAT CAN CAUSE…
- Service brakes
HORN GOES ON & STAYS ON, WIPERS GO CONTINUOUSLY, WIPER FLUID FLOWS CONSTANTLY, BACK UP LIGHTS GO ON, HEATER FAN GOES OFF & ON, THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN WITH THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION AND THE LAST TIME THE ABS CAME ON WHILE I WAS DELIVERING MAIL AND MY BRAKES LOCKED UP. ONCE IT HAPPENED WHILE PARKED ( THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING WITHOUT KEYS), ALL OTHER TIMES I WAS DRIVING ON RURAL ROADS AND IN DEVELOPMENTS, BOTH DRIVING HOME & DELIVERING MAIL. I HAVE VIDEO ON MY PHONE OF THE OCCURRENCE TWO SEPARATE TIMES.
- Fuel/propulsion system
WHEN TRYING TO FILL GAS TANK IT WILL NOT TAKE THE FUEL AS IT SHUTS THE PUMP OFF. IT TAKES ABOUT 20 MINUTES TO PUT IN $10 WORTH OF GAS IN. IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE.
- Power train
GEARS ENGAGING WITH DELAY AS VEHICLE GETS HOT. WHEN PUTTING THE JEEP FROM THE PARK POSITION INTO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE HAS A DELAY ENGAGING WHICH GETS WORSE THE WARMER OR HOTTER THE CAR GETS AND OR THE LONGER IT RUNS. THIS PROBLEM BECAME WORSE OVER THE LAST 12 MONTHS. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME/SIMILAR PROBLEM IN CERTAIN SPECIFIC BLOGS/FORUMS AND IN FEW CASES THE VEHICLE HAS ACTUALLY CAUGHT ON FIRE, SO NOW I AM WONDERING IF THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AND WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT. *TR
- Fuel/propulsion system
THE GAS TANK CAN NOT BE FILLED WITHOUT CONSTANTLY RE-STARTING THE FUEL PUMP, IT STOPS EVERY FEW SECONDS, IT HAPPENS AT EVERY GAS STATION OR ANY FUEL PUMP, SO IT IS DEFINITELY NOT THE PUMP BUT A PROBLEM WITH THE JEEP GAS TANK AND/OR IT'S COMPONENTS. IT GOT WORSE OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS AND MONTHS AND IS TO THE POINT NOW WHERE IT TAKES ME 10-15 MINUTES TO FILL UP 11 -15 GALLONS OF FUEL. THE GAS TANK WAS REPLACED UNDER A RECALL BACK IN 2011 (AT APPROX. 34000 MILES) WHERE WITH THE OLD TANK THE FUEL PUMP WOULD NOT STOP IN TIME WHEN FULL AND THEREFORE IT RESULTED IN THE "SPILL-BACK" PROBLEM EVERY TIME. THIS PROBLEM WAS FIXED WITH REPLACEMENT AFTER RECALL, BUT NOW I HAVE THE PROBLEM THAT I JUST…
- Engine and engine coolingFire
MY 2008 JEEP WRANGLER RHD CAUGHT FIRE WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I WAS TURNING ONTO THE HWY AND DROVE A FEW FEET AND NOTICED SMOKE. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OFF OF THE ROAD,SHUT THE CAR OFF AND POPPED THE HOOD. AS SOON AS I LIFTED THE HOOD I SAW FLAMES!! I CONTACTED JEEP AND THEY'RE "SUPPOSED TO BE DOING AN INVESTIGATION". THERE WASN'T ANY KIND OF WARNING THE CAR WASN'T EVEN RUNNING ANY DIFFERENTLY. SCARY STUFF ESPECIALLY FROM A VEHICLE THAT WASN'T GIVING ME ANY PROBLEMS. DISAPPOINTED TO SAY THE LEAST,BUT FOLKS NEED TO KNOW FOR SAFETY REASONS. VEHICLE IS A TOTAL LOSS!! *TR
- Engine
ENGINE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON UPON STARTING VEHICLE. CHECKED ALL FLUIDS, AND THAT GAS CAP WAS TIGHT. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP WHO SAID TO DRIVE IT FOR A FEW DAYS TO SEE IF LIGHT REMAINED ON. INDICATOR LIGHT WENT OFF SEVERAL DAYS LATER. MY ENGINE IS NOW EXHIBITING WHAT SOUNDS LIKE A STUCK LIFTER AND CHRYSLER IS REFUSING TO HONOR THE WARRANTY ON THE LIFETIME POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. I ALSO HAD A STEERING DAMPENER FAIL ON THE VEHICLE AT 32K MILES WHICH CHRYSLER MADE ME PAY HALF FOR FIXING. *TR

NHTSA defect investigations
- Totally Integrated Power Module FailureClosed
In a letter dated August 21, 2014, the Center for Auto Safety (CAS) petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to initiate a defect investigation of alleged failures associated with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) installed in Chrysler SUV?s, trucks, and vans beginning in the 2007 model year. The petitioner alleges that TIPM defects may result in engine stall, airbag non-deployment, failure of fuel pump shutoff resulting in unintended acceleration, fire, and other symptoms. On September 25, 2014, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened DP14-004 to evaluate the petition for a grant or deny decision. ODI analyzed complaint data provided by CAS as well as complaints submitted to ODI from consumers. In total, there were 296 complaints submitted by the petitioner in the original petition and five supplements, including 271 complaints related to…
- Airbag Clockspring FailureClosedLed to recall 11V528000
In its July 29, 2011 response to ODI's May 27, 2011 information request letter, Chrysler provided 153 MY 2007-2008 owner reports, additional to the 28 ODI Vehicle Owner Questionnaires (VOQs), which related to the illumination of the air bag light (ABL) due to a faulty clockspring (CS) wiring circuit. The right hand drive (RHD) vehicles, which were first produced in MY 2008 and account for only 1% of vehicle production, accounted for 82 of these 181 reports (45%).The MY2007 left hand drive (LHD) vehicle accounted for 61 of the remaining 92 LHD reports and exhibited a higher complaint rate than the MY 2008 LHD vehicles.ODI did not identify any incidents of crashes/injuries attributable to the CS circuit failure.Since May 27, 2011, ODI has received another 32 consumer complaints bringing the total to 213 reports at this closing. In addition, and for comparative purposes, Chrysler provided…
- Fuel Spill During RefuelingClosed
ODI found the rate of warranty claims related to fuel spit back on the subject vehicles is lower than other vehicles previously recalled to correct defects related to fuel spit back.Although the rate of complaints reported to the agency on the subject vehicles is higher than or similar to the rates experienced in previous investigations where safety recalls were conducted, ODI suspects that the NHTSA safety complaints submitted by subject vehicles owners may have been influenced by internet related publicity both before and during this investigation.A safety-related defect trend has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.Accordingly, this investigation is closed. The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by NHTSA that no safety-related defect exists. The agency will monitor the issue and reserves the right…
