The infotainment display glass on my 2017 Toyota Yaris iA has a known adhesive defect that causes white "spider cracking" around the edges of the infotainment display and "ghost touches," where the touchscreen registers inputs without being touched. This can change music, navigation, phone, or menu settings while driving, creating a distraction and safety hazard. The issue occurs unpredictably and cannot be disabled by the driver, nor can the infotainment display be powered off as a solution. Mazda settled a lawsuit (Duffy, et al. v. Mazda Motor of America, Inc.) and issued Service Alert SAâ041/22 for this exact defect on the Mazda2, which uses the same Mazdaâbuilt infotainment hardware…
- Air bagsCrash2 injuries
I was involved in a accident where the airbags did not deploy. I was hit on my driver's side and the vehicle was totaled but the airbags never deployed. I also dealt with electrical issues the entire time I had the vehicle. I believe the electrical issues cause the airbags not to deploy. I did receive the vehicle in that condition.

i just got this vehicle drive it about 1000mile then i relive my toyota yaris ia 2017 have a huge dangerous problem when drive high speeds above 70mph to 80mph vehicle stall on the high way
- Steering
For several years the steering has been binding and lightly locking durind highway driving. After numerous attempts to have the dealer test drive the vehicle to duplicate the problem, in 2022 they said there was a dangerous problem with the steering. They replaced the steering shaft and the problem was almost completely fixed. Gradually the steering began to bind again and on 18 Dec 2023 I asked the dealer to check the steering and they could not duplicate the problem during a test drive.
- Steering
At about 25,000 miles, my vehicle steering began to lightly bind when driving on a straight road at highway speed. Although the steering wheel could be turned with some minor extra effort, the experience was troubling. At 29,880 miles I took my vehicle to the local dealer and asked to have the steering checked. The dealer was not able to duplicate the problem and they did not charge me. The problem gradually worsened until 41,020 miles when I returned to the dealer with the same issue. This time they found the steering shaft assembly was defective and said that it was a dangerous situation. I asked them to fix the problem which they did promptly. I have service records from both visits.
- Power train
The car had precisely 51,255 miles. I took it in for a 50K regular service and asked them to run a diagnostic because there was a grinding sound, so I asked them to check the transmission fluid and run an OBD diagnostic. Between my last regular service and the current service, the TRANSMISSION broke; the car is unsafe to drive at this point. The transmission could have stopped on the highway since I do not work locally. This issue happened suddenly. I took the first appointment I could get, and I am without a vehicle today. I will never feel safe in this car again. I must express my absolute disappointment in my 2017 Toyota Yaris IA with 51,255 miles. I just paid off this vehicle early…

Our Toyota Yaris was involved in front end accident on 11/4/21; no airbags deployed as a result of the accident. The car was declared a total loss (TL) by USAA. Calliber Collision (775-353-4400) in Sparks, NV currently has the car. I requested they complete a diagnostic report on the airbags (to confirm the car has airbags, if they should've deployed, etc.) but they won't run the diagnostic report since USAA declared it a TL. (USAA confirmed this is the case - no diagnostic report will be done since the car is a TL...even when I requested the report.) Our daughter's safety was put at risk since the car's airbags did not deploy. The car had no warning messages, etc prior to the accident on…

I have found that the TCS/DSC control malfunctions occasionally and can lead to lose of power to the wheels right when it is necessary to avoid an accident. The worst time was when it was snowing out and even if I floored it the wheels did not turn. Once I shut off the TCS/DSC control I regained control and was able to avoid an accident. Originally I had thought that the occasional hesitation when slowing to make a turn and then suddenly accelerating only to find the car bogged down was not from the transmission but from the TCS/DSC control. Ever since the car was new I have had this problem of hesitation when turning from a slowing down to near stop then accelerating only to find that the…
