Jan 16, 2023Engine Coolant Intrusion / In my Engine of 2.0L EcoBoost engines. I had coolant leaking into cylinders leading to overheating or total engine failure and had to replace engine with Ford not covering cost. Need a recall on these engines for 2016 Ford Edge. Still no recall from ford.
Oct 15, 2026Engine I am filing this complaint regarding a serious engine defect in my 2016 Ford Edge equipped with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine. The vehicle has approximately 71,521 miles and still has its original engine. A Ford dealership inspected and diagnosed the vehicle and confirmed coolant intrusion into the engine. The dealership recommended replacing the engine long block, which represents a major engine repair at relatively low mileage. Despite the dealership's confirmed diagnosis, Ford has not offered to cover the cost of the repair and expects me to pay for the engine replacement myself. I am concerned about the safety and reliability of this engine defect. Coolant intrusion can lead to engine…
Mar 15, 2026Engine Coolant intrusion into the engine cylinders caused engine failure requiring full engine replacement at approximately 60,000 miles in March 2026. Vehicle is a 2016 Ford Edge 2.0L EcoBoost. Exact date in March 2026 is approximate.
Sep 28, 2026Engine The engine ecoboost 2.0 needs a long block assembly due to coolant intrusion. This is a documented defect known to Ford but they refuse to reimburse replacement of the engine that can run over $9,000. This is a serious safety defect that can cause catastrophic damage or injury.
Sep 17, 2026Engine Hello, I'm on permanent disability and this my only car. it started with noticing white smoke coming out of the exhaust and a sweet smell. also noticed the coolant getting low and had to keep adding more in with no visible leaks. I pulled cylinder one plug and put a bore a scope down it and found a crack in the cylinder wall. I found a web site that said there was a class action law suite miller vs. ford for this issue, it told me to call these two dealer ships Ted Russel Ford and Ray Cunningham Ford to have my car fixed free of charge. The web site told me if they said no, to contact NHTSA and file a complaint. I also called NHTSA they told me to contact the state attorney office they…
Jul 15, 2021Engine I own a 2016 Ford Edge with the 2.0 ecoboost engine and have problems with it burning antifreeze for quite some time. The first time it happened I was getting on the interstate and the temp gage went up and the vehicle went into limp mode. I have been driving around with the coolant recovery reservoir cap loose for quite some time now to keeping it from pressurizing the cooling system. I read the article regarding this issue on MSN and decided to register a complaint. I'm a retired mechanic and have been told by a lot of other mechanics that this has been an issue for sometime. Thanks for looking into this issue!
Oct 5, 2026Engine My 2016 Ford Edge equipped with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine developed a check engine light and began producing white smoke from the exhaust after sitting overnight. The vehicle was taken to an authorized Ford dealership for diagnosis. The Ford technician performed a self-test and found diagnostic trouble codes P0304 and P0316 stored in the PCM. The dealer pressure-tested the cooling system, removed the cylinder 4 spark plug for inspection, and confirmed coolant intrusion into cylinder 4. The dealer then searched Ford's OASIS system and identified Ford TSB 22-2229, which calls for replacement of the engine long block for this condition. The dealership has recommended long-block engine…
Sep 7, 2026Engine We had rough idling for a couple days followed by excessive white smoke one morning upon starting the vehicle and the check engine light came on. We immediately noticed the coolant was low, so it got topped off and then we took it to the dealer. They diagnosed the engine coolant intrusion in cylinder 4. Had we not added coolant the engine could have seized and created an accident or caused a fire. We received an $8,200 estimate for installing a new long block. Ford is giving zero assistance on this because the vehicle is more than 7 years old (oddly, Ford started putting in a different design 2.0L engine 7 years ago). This vehicle is in mint condition, only 65,000 miles and had all service…

NHTSA defect investigations
DP26008 · opened Sep 3, 2026 · openLoss of Motive Power The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) received a petition on August 5, 2026, requesting a defect investigation into the 2.0 Liter EcoBoost engine on model year 2015-2018 Ford Edge vehicles. The petition alleges that engine coolant intrusion results in a significant loss of engine power, accompanied by an "Engine Coolant Over Temperature" warning message. The petition further alleges that after the vehicle has sat and cooled down, the engine runs roughly and generates a check engine light for a cylinder misfire. This defect petition is being opened to evaluate the issue and determine whether to grant or deny the petition. The petition can be reviewed at NHTSA.gov under ODI number 11754989.
PE24027 · opened Oct 3, 2024 · closed Oct 30, 2025 · led to recall 25V544Loss of braking caused by rear brake hose failure On October 3, 2024, NHTSAâs Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) opened this Preliminary Evaluation to investigate instances of rear brake hose ruptures causing a sudden and unexpected loss of braking in model year (MY) 2015-2017 Ford Edge vehicles manufactured by Ford Motor Company. The complaints allege that, without warning, the vehicle lost its ability to brake causing an unanticipated increase in the vehicleâs stopping distance. The complaints also allege that, prior to the rear brake hose rupture event, the vehicle had been serviced under recall 20V-469. Recall 20V469 involved MY 2015-2018 Ford Edge and MY 2016-2018 Lincoln MKX vehicles which may experience front brake hose ruptures causing increased brake pedal travel and a reduction in the rate of deceleration. Ford identified the cause of this safety defect as a consistent localized failure of the internal reinforcement…
EA21002 · opened Sep 17, 2021 · openDesiccated Air Bag Inflator Rupture From 2000 through 2017, Takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("PSAN") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004L. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 Blomquist Report at www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in US vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced. In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled…
